Tuesday night was Reed-Custer’s Volley for the Cure Night against Peotone where the players honored loved ones that have been affected with some form of cancer. They walked out and planned on fighting for them during the game. And fight is exactly what they did. Even though the Varsity lost the first game 9-25, they came back with a vengeance in the next two games. RC won the 2nd game 25-19, but the third game was a whole different fight. Both teams would not give up, which is why the final score was 33-35 in Peotone’s favor. Coach Van Duyne told her players:
That is a good loss. You never gave up and fought to the bitter end. Keep your heads high as you leave tonight. That was an amazing match.
Madelyn Alton ended the evening with 26 digs, 4 aces, 3 kills, and 2 blocks. Junior middle blocker, Maggie Meyr, also added 3 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 digs. Sophomore, Ashleigh Coster, also added another 4 blocks, 2 aces, and a kill.
The JV team beat Peotone in 2: 25-13, 25-19. Shaelin Ruzich led the way with 3 aces, 3 kills, 4 digs, and a block. Setter, Danielle Cherry, also added another 10 digs and 5 assists.
The Freshmen team also outlasted Peotone winning 25-21, 25-23. Jenna Tiangco had 5 aces, 8 digs, 2 kills, and 3 assists. Savannah Bruns had 5 kills to lead the team and also 11 assists and an ace.
