2015 Comet Football Preview

Football Close Up on Field

The 2015 Comet Football season begins this evening at Coal City. The Chatter asked Comet Football Head Coach Mark Wolf a few questions to kick-off this season:

Looking back over last year and this past summer, how would you sum up the preparation for this season?

The in-school off season preparation was extremely important towards getting our kids to understand and buy in to the importance of preparation. Being in year two, I felt that with the summer work we did went more smoothly and we were able to do a lot more towards getting ready for Week One.

Tell me what we can expect to see tonight from the Varsity Comets.

It’s Week One, so you’ll see two teams who are well-prepared and eager to show their fans what they can do this year. We will rely on our defense this year and our ability to take advantage of the situations that will put us in a position to win. We will also rely on leadership from our seven seniors and underclassmen who step up and contribute when their number is called.

What would a Comet victory over Coal City mean to you and the boys this evening?

A victory tonight over Coal City will be the quickest way to show our players that the system we have in place and the culture we have established is working. Coal City is our rival and we have a lot of respect for the body of work that they have established over the last 20 plus years. Having said that, we feel very strongly that we can compete with and defeat anyone on our schedule. In order for it to be a true rivalry, both teams have to be capable of winning in any given year. We want to show our community and our fans that we can compete.

What is the team goal / motto for this season?

Our team motto is “Hahuna”
