The Reed-Custer Comets used a 6 run rally after 2 were out in the second inning to pull away from Clifton Central in opening round action of IHSA Regional play on Monday. Reed-Custer would go on to win the game 13-3 in five innings.
R-C was deadlocked at 2-2 when, with 2 outs, Nick Urban beat out an infield single and Tyler Duha dropped a single into centerfield. Mason Dransfield followed with a smash over the right fielder’s head for a triple, scoring 2 runs. Dransfield would score on a wild pitch and the Comets would plate 3 more runs in the inning to take a comfortable 8-2 lead.
R-C would take advantage of 7 Central errors in the contest. Dransfeldt had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and scored 3 runs. Neil O’Donnell also had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs. Jordan Walden and Travis Schoonover contributed doubles to the attack. Hunter Murawski (6-3) earned the win. He gave up 1 earned run, while striking out 3 and walking 1.
R-C is 23-11 on the season.
