On March 6, 2015, the RCHS Industrial Technology department, under the leadership of veteran teacher Scott Ward, sent three students to the Regional Drafting contest that is sponsored by the Illinois Drafting Educators Association. All three participated in the Introductory Board Drafting division, as they were all first-year drafting students. Vince Vercelote emerged the Regional Champion and qualified for the State Drafting Contest held at Illinois State University on April 11, 2015.
Competing against 19 other students from around the state, Vince had to draw a three view block from a three-dimensional drawing. He was given 2 hours but completed it in 1.5 hours. His drawing scored 95/100 and placed first to become the 2015 State Champion in the Introductory Board Division.
Scott Ward is proud to have had such talented students in recent years. This is Reed Custer’s third State Champion in the last four years. Brandon Harding won in 2014 and Emily Morrison won in 2012.
