The RC Track program enjoyed some outstanding and record-breaking performances in the past few days. To summarize the “fantastic” events, here is Coach Todd Lockwood’s commentary posted on Facebook Saturday evening:
Thursday – girls went to Charleston to compete in the state track meet. Highlights included the 4X4 relay team setting a season’s best PR and Morgan Zacharias advancing to Saturday’s finals in the pole vault. On Friday, the boys competed in the IHSA sectional. The boys finished 4th out of 16 schools. Advancing to state were B.J. Bailey in the 100 and 200 and the 4X8 relay team. B.J. won the 100 and placed 2nd in the 200. The 4X8 team of Cesar Popoca, Andrew Morrison, Jordan Neu, and Nathan Costello lowered their school record by an outstanding 14 seconds to claim 2nd place and a trip to state. Today, Morgan Zacharias not only became state champion in the pole vault but became the new Class A pole vault record holder with her winning height of 12’10. What a fantastic last 72 hours for the R-C track program!!
The Boys State Track Meet begins in Charleston on Thursday, May 29th and concludes on Saturday, May 31st. For more information visit the IHSA website.
